This article doesn’t live up to the Economist’s reputation for excellence. Independently from the humanitarian aspects, the article goes through a bunch of statistics, projections and statements, trying to prove that Poland really needs refugees, in theory from Syria, in reality from all over the Mideast, Afghanistan. and Africa. Poland, which has seen millions of its citizens emigrate – usually ones with the best training and most enterprising ones – should take in  immigrants, independently from their skills, training and willingness to integrate in the local society. I would understand calls to raise wages and provide better conditions to entice Polish émigrés back to the country, but swapping Polish citizens for foreign ones – doesn’t make sense economic sense – again, apart from humanitarian considerations.
