There is a glaring omission in this story: left and extreme left wing parties and groups don’t get a mention, while they are unstinting in their support of everything Islamist and tireless in their condemnation of Israel and Jews, accusing them of all the ills of the world, the usual extreme right wing fare. In the meantime, Islamists are the left wing’s greatest enemies, being only interested in religion and the afterlife, not ideologies and class struggle.
The European Union now sometimes looks like a replay of Weimar’s combination of institutional perfection with violent and nationalist forces aimed at tearing down the ‘system.’
